NAU Geology Students on the Verde

The Inside NAU team is gearing up for season SEVEN!  This summer, we enjoyed numerous television adventures, including a trip to the Verde headwaters.

NAU Geology students are using iPads in the field instead of paper maps; the technology improves the mapping process by overlaying several types of maps and allowing students to take photos and make notes on the iPad.

I was enthralled by the hydrology.  The river, which is formed by ground water, starts as a tiny trickle and quickly becomes Arizona’s longest free flowing year round river.

We couldn’t have picked a more beautiful day to hike to the headwaters.  The wildlife was abundant with beaver, river otter, snakes and frogs.  Look for this story when Inside NAU’s next season gets underway.
