My wife, Kim, and I, opened our doors this weekend to host a
NAU-TV party. Cinco de Mayo provided the
theme and an excuse to make my Carnitas and chile verde. Nearly the entire staff showed up to enjoy
fellowship, and some of the best Mexican food in town (this was a consensus,
not me patting myself on the back.)
2012 is a year full of promise. While Arizona is still struggling to crawl
out of the recession, there is hope in Northern Arizona and at NAU-TV. As station manager, I feel a lot of hope for
the upcoming sports season and for our community partnerships. The party we hosted at our home reflected
that optimism; people were upbeat and looking forward to the many projects we
have slated for the rest of the year and for the new partnerships we will
forge.
It was nice to see Rue from the Zaki Gordon Film Institute
at the party. She drove up from Sedona
with a friend to take part in the celebration and enjoy the mild spring
evening. Rue has been working with
NAU-TV as an on air talent introducing films made by students at the
Institute. Look for those films soon on
Channel 4 or online at www.nau-tv.com This
partnership serves everyone: NAU-TV gets some locally produced films and
student filmmakers get exposure of their work on TV and on our website.
Like many organizations, partnerships are part of our
future. Last month we debuted the
locally produced show Changing Gears: Flagstaff and the Mountain Bike. Produced by Chris Gunn, the program is a
favorite among the region’s many outdoor enthusiasts and was a perfect
partnership for NAU-TV. In addition to
airing the program on Channel 4, we were proud to welcome Absolute Bikes as the
program’s sponsor. This type of
partnership is something we will do more of this year.
At NAU-TV, we have a lot to celebrate, and we will celebrate
each step along the way. As we continue
to make new partnerships, I will be using this space to say ‘thank you,’ and
give recognition to the many people (including our staff) who is working toward
even greater successes.
